Tension Type Headache is one of the most common headaches. Tension headache can be exhausting. Lasting for minutes to days with an intense pressure sensation
TENSION TYPE HEADACHES ARE ALSO DIAGNOSED AS MUSCLE CONTRACTION HEADACHES THAT CAN INTERFERE WITH PRODUCTIVITY
Tension type headaches are one of the most common headache types. Infrequent episodic tension type headaches occur in most of the population. These type of headaches are known as muscle contraction headaches. These dull to intense pressing or tightening headaches can occur for a few minutes up to a few days at a time. Usually starting at the temples or neck the headaches can also involve the temporomandibular joints causing clicking, grinding and pain with opening and closing the mouth.
DID YOU KNOW?
MUSCLE TENSION, ANXIETY, PHYSICAL INJURIES, POOR POSTURE, SPINE MISALIGNMENT AND MIGRAINE HEADACHE ALL CONTRIBUTE TO TENSION HEADACHES.
Tension headaches are usually triggered by stress and underlying muscle and spine misalignment. Muscle contraction is a natural response to stress causing neck tension, jaw grinding, eye squinting, brow furrowing and exaggerated shoulder shrug. Muscles attaching to the bones of the spine pull on the spine and compress nerves exiting the spine causing pressure, pain and stiffness. This results in tight muscles of the back and neck which connect to muscles of the scalp creating widespread muscle spasm.
Repetitive and exaggerated stress responses lead to painful conditions such as Tension headache and muscle spasms.
